Coconut oil for face?

Ulei de cocos pentru față?

If you search "coconut oil for face" on Google, 9 out of 10 articles on the first page praise its benefits, while only one refers to the risks you expose yourself to by applying it to your skin.

The media provides us with a lot of information every day about the benefits of superfoods that have fabulous effects on health. This is an advantage, because by including them in our daily diet or by increasing the frequency with which we consume them, we can enjoy their benefits.

But things get complicated when, chasing the spectacular beauty effects of these products, you choose to apply them to your skin without thorough research.

Coconut oil - from benefits to risks

Coconut oil is highly praised in the beauty industry. Its properties promise younger-looking skin, and it is also recommended as a tanning oil because it works as a sunscreen - with a low value, it's true. If you struggle with cellulite or need an emollient, coconut oil is also the basic ingredient you can use to combat it. And for hair, it can have moisturizing effects, giving it shine. These are the most recognized benefits we read about online.

Coconut oil for face - 100% safe?

A very important thing to know before using it is that coconut oil is a comedogenic product. Its greasy texture promotes the appearance of acne. Pores become blocked and pimples start to appear. Instead of enjoying the desired anti-aging effects, you can thus cause another problem to appear. What should draw your attention before seeing this unwanted effect on your own skin is the fact that coconut oil is not absorbed into the skin like face creams. It is natural for this to be the case, as long as you apply it in the form in which you purchased it.

Look for products with the "Non-comedogenic" label!

Cosmetic products containing coconut oil also contain other ingredients meant to make that product a cocktail that meets all the conditions to be skin-friendly and to help it assimilate them. However, a less processed form is not recommended, because its beneficial effects are counteracted by harmful ones. Its oily and dense texture does not allow it to be absorbed into the skin, but on the contrary, as I explained.

If you have chosen to use coconut oil on your face, the reason is probably very dry skin, with a tendency to wrinkle more pronounced than combination or oily skin. You probably thought that this would compensate for the sebum secretion that helps oily skin maintain its youthful appearance more easily. But what you will achieve will trigger an imbalance in the skin's microflora. The skin needs help, but the difference in its own pH and that of coconut oil will be felt, causing problems you haven't faced before.

You may encounter the problem of pimples appearing even when you start using a cream with coconut oil. Carefully observe how your skin reacts, especially when trying new products. Choose suitable products by looking for the non-comedogenic label and based on the ingredients in the composition, and avoid using coconut oil on your face, as long as the offer of cosmetic products is so generous!
