Wrinkles, from fine lines to deep folds in the skin, invariably appear around the eyes, nose, and lips as time passes. We've become accustomed to associating the appearance of wrinkles with the passage of time, because we most easily notice the effects of age on the faces of mothers, grandmothers, or even our own. But is time the only reason skin wrinkles?
The truth is that several factors lie behind this transformation. Supporting this claim is the surprise of discovering respectable ages behind young-looking skin. In fact, it all comes down to our daily actions. Constantly regenerating, the skin bears the consequences of our habits, so it is within our power to take the initiative to delay the appearance of wrinkles as much as possible.
Here's why we get wrinkles!
- Sun exposure dries out the skin. We know how much you love the sun and we perfectly understand, but we have a duty to warn you that prolonged exposure to its rays without using sunscreen is the main cause of wrinkles in any season. Include SPF cream in your skincare routine and you'll be able to enjoy a beautiful tan and young, protected skin in the most balanced way.
- Dehydration is another cause that affects the appearance of the skin. We are born with a body that is approximately 80% water. The body constantly eliminates water, so it needs to replenish its reserves. The recommendation of 2 liters of water per day refers to pure water, without other liquids (coffee, juices, soups, etc.). To comply, set up an app on your mobile phone. Practice this until it becomes a habit and your body will ask for water without needing your effort. This way, you'll keep wrinkles at bay.
- Position. You might not know it, but your sleeping position has a great influence on wrinkle formation. If you sleep on your back or side, the position of your face on the pillow will lead to the formation of wrinkles that are difficult to correct. Also, the tendency to lower your head for long periods while using your mobile phone causes wrinkles in the neck area. So, pay attention to your posture and try to sleep on your back!
- Diet. You are what you eat, therefore the appearance of your skin reflects your culinary choices. Make sure to include generous portions of vegetables and fruits in your menu, as fresh as possible, but also add beans, peas, lentils, soybean oil, and olive oil. Your body will extract the necessary nutrients for optimal cellular regeneration, for wrinkle-free skin.
- Gravity. Gravitational wrinkles are those that appear as a result of losing volume under the skin and form on either side of the nose. If you've reached this point, what you can do is incorporate collagen-rich foods into your diet. Collagen is the substance that maintains muscle tone and the overall well-being of the body. So, turn to meat, fish, chicken, eggs, and dairy products. Dietary supplements such as copper, zinc, and vitamins A and C support collagen synthesis, so they will be helpful. Ideally, you should make a balanced combination between points 4 and 5, as both target diet.
- In addition to causing premature aging, smoking has harmful effects on the skin by reducing capillary and arterial blood flow. As long as tissues are not sufficiently supplied with blood, cellular metabolism slows down. The skin loses its elasticity and radiance, and wrinkles become visible.
- Alcohol consumption. In fact, excessive alcohol consumption is what causes wrinkles. Alcohol affects the level of vitamin A in the body. This is responsible for collagen synthesis, and its absence causes an imbalance that over time is reflected in the skin. In addition, alcohol consumption also causes dehydration, an effect we discussed in point 2.
- Age – the passing years take their toll, but it's within our power to manage how we let them pass. If we do our best to filter our habits through the listed points, there's a chance to delay the appearance of wrinkles. Aging leads to a slowdown in cellular metabolism and, consequently, thinning of the skin and its folding due to loss of muscle volume. To stimulate cellular metabolism, we recommend facial massage. As a result, the skin becomes more elastic, firmer, and brighter. Facial massage is accessible to everyone and can be done comfortably at home anytime!
If until now we blamed the passage of years without truly knowing why we get wrinkles, now we have a list of causes that we can check daily to adopt the most practical ways of skin care. We continue our mission to help you preserve your youth as much as possible, so stay tuned!
